Teresa Piacentini, Ph.DClinical Psychologist

    Teresa Piacentini, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist. She joined ABCD in 2009. In working with adolescents, adults, parents, and families, she primarily employs evidenced based therapies. Dr. Piacentini treats a range of emotional and behavioral problems, with a particular focus on anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, stress management, life transitions, and children and families dealing with chronic and acute medical issues.

    Dr. Piacentini received her Ph.D. from Farleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. She completed her pre-doctoral training at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City and her post-doctoral training as a clinical psychologist for the New York University Child Study Center Institute for Anxiety and Mood Disorders. Dr. Piacentini then joined the Anxiety and Mood Disorders Institute as a staff psychologist, clinical supervisor, and clinical instructor for the Department of Child Psychiatry, NYU School of Medicine. Following her time at NYU, Dr. Piacentini was Assistant Director for Columbia University’s Center for Anxiety and Mood Disorders. She also served as an instructor and clinical supervisor for the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

    Prior to ABCD, Dr. Piacentini served as an Attending Clinical Psychologist at Seattle Children’s Hospital working in the Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, Consultation Liaison Service, and Pain Management Service. In addition to her clinical work, she has been involved with National Institutes of Mental Health-funded research studies investigating the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders and has also conducted research on psychological assessment. Dr. Piacentini has co-authored articles, presented at national conferences, directed workshops for clinicians on evidenced based treatments, and lectures on anxiety and depression for parents and professionals.
